Feminism – It’s present day existence and why is it taken for granted?

Rightly called as the Land of Gods, India is an abode to various religions, beliefs and customs. We worship various Gods and Goddesses and few Goddesses have high regard in our society. But still women residing in this country suffer a lot. We praise a deity of clay, mud and stones but fail to give importance to our mothers and sisters.
History is evident of the ill-treatment of women and introduction of literacy and education for all hasn’t much changed the scenario.  They are still considered the elements of hatred. The condition is worse in the rural areas but the cities too don’t lag behind. The amount of violence which is bestowed upon women has been on a rise day by day. Women, even teenagers and minors are constantly molested and raped. Who should be blamed for this? The whole male community? Certainly not!

It’s all basically because of men’s highly egoistic nature. In a country like us, a man’s ego is greater than a woman’s integrity and duty. Sad truth! Also, domestic violence is taking toll and is degrading a woman’s dignity. No section of men have actually come forward to better the conditions. What they’ve been doing? Just rants!(Exceptions are everywhere, I can’t blame the whole male community!)  The worst I’ve come across is the logic of Delhi/Gurgaon police, according to whom, a girl is safe a minute before 8 pm and she is not (safe), after the clock strikes 8! Now, that’s purely double standards, I must say. Instead of setting deadlines, isn’t it their responsibility to have a patrol and ensure safety of the fairer sex? After all, our Indian police!:P
I don’t say I am a feminist. It won’t be right to call yourself one. If the recent trend is anything to go by, we could see women/girls involving in undesirable stuff. They do it because they think as long as you are engaged in all this, you are cool. The sad part is young girls believe puffing a cigarette, losing one’s virginity has become a trend and unfortunately, they are the blind followers. And not to forget, we have such women too who force the other women in the bad business of prostitution. Well, there are many institutions of society which are responsible for this.
In all, I could say, Feminism has its existence orally. No one actually practises it. How many of us voice ourselves? Do we take any step to protect our dignity? All of us, who come home late at night, why don’t we enrol ourselves in some self-defence classes? That’s the least we could do. Don’t just blabber rants. Rather, just give a death stare or hit hard those perverse eyes gawking at you!
